Latest Post The Hound of the Baskervilles by Owen Soule

First off, bask in the darkness of my website's new stylesheet.  I was getting a bit bored with the old Soule Designs colors and decided to turn off the lights.   Anyway, I’ve been re-reading a bunch of Comixology purchases from prior years and once again found myself in the Mignolaverse. While I have done a number of sketches of the various characters in these books, so far the only “complete” illustration was my take on the B.P.R.D. frog monsters here. This time I didn’t set out to complete a Lobster Johnson illustration, but I sure as hell finished it! Wait, maybe that was a bit too much - anyway here is the finished illustration with my typical “making of” to follow…

Taste Justice Commie bastards!

Oddly enough this illustration started as a sketch after I had finished some figure drawing practice.

For some reason I found the little Lobster jumping toward a figure drawing model to be strangely hilarious, my juvenile sense of humor aside I decided to refine the drawing into something suitable for inking and color. The resulting digital pencil work is below.

And what Soule Designs drawing post would be complete without the pre-color ink stage, which is actually my favorite stage of creating these types of illustrations!

The astute viewer will note I tweaked the drawing when inking, most notably I rotated him a bit counter clockwise and pulled his head up a bit since I thought he looked a little strange. Finally, here is the color drawing on a neutral background just because...why not?

That's it for now!
