Beach vacations conjure up visions of frolicking in the surf, building sand castles, and possibly even kayaking?

Hapless kayakers no nothing of the terror beneath the water! |
But what beach vacations most often mean is subconscious fear and dread of the hideous beast that lurks beneath the sea waiting to rise again, Cthulhu!

Cthulhu keeps on calling me! |
Well, maybe that's just what beach vacations mean to me? Anyway, I read a few H.P. Lovecraft stories while at the Outer Banks and decided to sketch a few Cthulhu concepts with the ultimate goal of creating a ZBrush model from one of the drawings. The colorized version above is what I decided to go with as the concept for the model. Here is this same sketch before the magic of Photoshop.

No matter what occurs, Cthulhu will find you! |
I came up with a few other concepts, some bordering on a Zoidberg-esque aesthetic, but none quite fit the bill.

Stay tuned for updates on this sculpt, I figure the more ZBrush time I put in the better I'll get! Also, you can get the entire works of H.P. Lovecraft online at Cthulhu Girl's site.
